About me
Hello, I'm Barbara Gillick, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Professional Certificate in Adolescent Psychotherapy.
I provide a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I work with empathy and compassion, building a therapeutic relationship based on trust and understanding.
I have a particular interest in working with neurodiversity and value each person's unique way of experiencing the world. My approach is person-centred, collaborative, and tailored to the individual needs of each client.
I work with adults and adolescents facing challenges such as anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, emotional difficulties, and life transitions, supporting them towards greater self-awareness, resilience, and wellbeing.
My approach
I believe that each person's experience is unique, and there is no single "right" way to approach therapy.
At the heart of my work is the belief that being truly heard and understood can be a powerful starting point for change. I aim to offer a space where you can speak openly, without fear of judgement, and begin to make sense of your experiences at your own pace.
My approach is compassionate and person-centred, while also drawing on CBT techniques to support greater understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Together, we work towards building self-awareness, resilience, and positive change.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." — Carl Rogers

Adolescent counselling
Adolescence can be a challenging and important stage of life. Young people today can experience pressure from many different areas, including school, friendships, family relationships, identity, social media, anxiety, self-esteem, and emotional wellbeing.
I work with adolescents aged 14 years and older, providing a supportive and compassionate space tailored to each young person's individual needs. My approach is warm, compassionate, and person-centred, supporting adolescents in exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels safe and manageable for them. I work collaboratively to help young people develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, confidence, and coping skills.
I also understand that neurodivergent adolescents may experience the world differently and may face unique challenges in areas such as communication, sensory experiences, emotional regulation, or feeling understood by others. I aim to provide an affirming and supportive environment that respects each young person's individuality and strengths.
Where appropriate, I value working alongside parents or caregivers in a supportive and respectful way while always maintaining the adolescent's trust and confidentiality within professional and ethical guidelines.
